    Captain John Michael Hayes was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force on 21 May 1967 after completing four years in the Air Force ROTC at Southern Methodist University. He completed undergraduate pilot training (Class 69-03) at Webb AFB, Texas in October, 1968. He flew the C-141 in the 3rd and 41st Military Aircraft Squadrons at Charleston AFB, South Carolina from March, 1969 until May, 1921. From July, 1971 through June, 1971, Captain Hayes flew the EC-47 in the 361st Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron (Phu Cat AB, Republic of Vietnam) and the 362nd Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron (Danang AB, Republic of Vietnam), where he was an Aircraft Commander, Instructor Pilot, Flight Examiner, and Supervisor of Flying. Captain Hayes’ awards include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. After release from active duty, Captain Hayes flew for Braniff International and US Airways.
