    During a twenty-year career as a pilot in the USAF, he flew more than twenty types of aircraft. Included were bomber, cargo, reconnaissance, passenger, fighter, trainer and helicopter types with multi and single engine, jet and reciprocating engines, and amphibious. In addition, he spent more than ten years in Research and Development while in the USAF. In Vietnam he flew CH-3E helicopters in support of CIA operations in Laos, North Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. It was in this capacity that he earned his DFCs. Following retirement from the USAF he spent more than twenty years in the aerospace industry, managing three companies, including a division of Chrysler.
