    John Alan Northcott, III was born May 3, 1979 at Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, California. During his childhood he lived throughout the United States and overseas with his family. He attended Chancellor High School, in Fredericksburg, Virginia and upon graduation in 1998 joined the United States Marine Corps and was ordered to Recruit Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation from boot camp in September 1998, Private First Class Northcott was assigned as a basic UH/AH-1 helicopter mechanic student at Marine Helicopter Training Squadron 303 (HMT-303), MCAS Camp Pendleton, California. Lance Corporal Northcott completed his schooling and was transferred to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 367 also located at Camp Pendleton. While assigned to HMLA-367 Corporal Northcott initially qualified as a UH-1N Helicopter Crew Chief, and Aerial Gunner. During 2001 and 2002 he qualified as a UH-1N and AH-1W Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI), and Quality Assurance Representative (QAR) participating in several unit deployments to Okinawa, Japan, and deployed aboard the USS Belleau Wood. In February 2002 Sergeant Northcott was assigned as a member of the "Skid Detachment" with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 268 (C) SOC, a Marine composite helicopter squadron and was deployed aboard the USS Tarawa. Returning to Camp Pendleton in November 2002, Sergeant Northcott was temporally assigned to Marine Helicopter Light Attack Squadron 267 (HMLA-267) and one short month later deployed to Iraq participating over the next five months in combat action during Operation Iraqi Freedom and the liberation of Iraq. May 2003 returned Sergeant Northcott to Camp Pendleton rejoining his old squadron HMLA-367. August 2004 sent Sergeant Northcott back to Iraq for his second combat tour based at Al Taqaddum. While serving at Camp TQ, he provided Close Air Support (CAS) throughout Iraq, and most importantly during the Battle of Fallujah. April 2005 returned Staff Sergeant Northcott and his squadron back to Camp Pendleton, California. In May 2005 Staff Sergeant Northcott received orders to report to the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Air Group 42, Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 773 (HMLA-773), NAS Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia were he serves today.
