Flew with British RAF in England and North Africa. Transferred to 8th USAAF in 1943 and flew 44 combat missions over Europe in B-17 aircraft.
Recalled in 1950 and flew with 4th Fighter Group in Korea. Flew with the USAF Air Defense Command from 1953 to 1958. Flew with 36th Fighter Wing in Germany 1958 – 1962. Assigned to 4th Fighter Wing and later the F101B Test Force. Flew with the 4th Fighter Wing in Korea again when the Navy ship Pueblo was captured by North Korea.
During Air Force career was awarded three Distinguished Flying Crosses (DFCs).
