    John Stuart Jamison began his aviation career with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 1961. He initially worked at Washington Headquarters as an airports engineer and went on to hold senior management positions primarily in the field of international aviation. Among his responsibilities was overall management of the FAA international technical assistance programs.

    In 1985 he was appointed by the Department of State to serve as the Deputy U.S. Representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a specialized United Nations agency headquartered in Montreal Canada. He con-jointly served as a member of the ICAO Air Navigation Commission that is responsible for the development of international specifications and procedures covering the entire spectrum of aviation.

    He served with the U.S. Mission to ICAO until 1990 when he returned to the FAA and was assigned to its Europe, Africa and Middle East Office in Brussels, Belgium. Among the senior positions he held there were FAA Senior Representative to the Middle East and FAA Representative to the European Union. In 1992, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Regional office where he assisted in exercising oversight responsibilities for all FAA activities within the office’s geographic area of coverage until his retirement in December 1999.
