?»?Born in Holtville, California, September 24, 1919, Ted grew up in the Portola/Reno area graduating from Portola High School in 1938. In May of 1941, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served as an aircraft mechanic until entering Aviation Officer Cadet School in 1942. As a transport pilot during WWII, Ted completed assignments in the China-India-Burma, Pacific, Continental US, and European Theaters. He was awarded the Air Medal for flying 25 trips over the ?€?Hump?€?. Other military awards include a Distinguished Unit Citation, and several campaign medals. In 1946, Ted married Patricia Callahan who preceded him in death in 2005. After being recalled to active duty for the 1948 Berlin Airlift, Ted embarked on an Air Force career as a maintenance officer serving in England, Korea, Tennessee, Ohio, Missouri, and Minnesota. He retired from the military in 1965 as a Multi-Engined Command Pilot with the rank of Major. During his military career Ted flew 24 different types of aircraft and accumulated over 5,300 hours of flight time. As a civilian, Ted became a right-of-way agent with the Nevada Highway Department working out of Reno and Carson City until his second retirement. During the 1970s, Ted was a member of the Nevada Civil Air Patrol. He is survived by his brother Mel; sons, Tim and Guy, and their respective spouses Christine and Laura; and grand-daughter Mary. Ted?€™s family will miss his strength, love and kindness. At age 90, he died peacefully on January 16, 2010.
