Joseph Castoro, 12211699, Staff Sergeant, Air Corps, 344 Bombardment Group (M). For extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight against the enemy in the European Theater of Operations from March to November 1944. S Sgt Castoro served as engineer gunner of a B-26 type aircraft throughout the course of numerous missions against the enemy’s most heavily defended installations. By his knowledge of emergency procedures and calm judgment in the face of adverse weather conditions, intense antiaircraft fire, or attack by hostile aircraft, he contributed conspicuously to the success of sustained operation of his group. The outstanding manner in which S Sgt Castoro executed his duties is exemplary of his keen devotion to duty and reflects great credit upon himself and his organization.
