    Joseph Harold McKenna, born February 7, 1922, Yonkers, New York; died October 10, 2001, Converse, Texas. Married Norma Marie Scott, September 4, 1943; children, Joseph Grant McKenna, Norma Jeanne Walker, three grandchildren, two great granddaughters. His passion for flying began at age 14 when he soloed and continued for the next 55 years. He served in the Army and Army Air Corps seven years. An alumnus of Illinois Institute of Technology, he did graduate work at Greely State College, Pierce College, Georgia State University and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, receiving certificates of Emergency Management of National Economy, 1954, and National Security Management, 1969. As a chemical, aeronautic and aerospace engineer, he conducted systems analyses on storable propulsion concepts, propellants and propulsion systems for the Department of Defense and NASA; Minuteman; NASA space missions Gemini, Mercury, and Apollo. He conducted analyses for new developments and long range planning required for advanced high technology weapons concepts, aerospace vehicles space craft, test planning for man-rating LEM and high energy laser concepts (Secret). Manager of Technical Planning solid and liquid propulsion systems, Titan II and III; SRAM; Agena; B58 aircraft auxiliary propulsion-powered pod; B36 ANP nuclear studies; airborn reactor; radiation effects on rocket propellants, aircraft materials and solid film lubricants. FAA certification/DER mechanical systems on B-747-727 and B-l-11 aircraft advanced systems. He helped develop the lightest, strongest airplane seat frame. In 1975, he authored a document listing extended uses of Nav Star Global Positioning System by the military and future commercial uses and growth of GPS. A member and past-President of the American Rocket Society (AIAA); AOPA; Who's Who in the West in 1978-79; founder and past-President of Colorado Chapter Silver Wings Fraternity; a Volunteer for VITA. In 1977, as a private pilot and airplane owner, he flew a segment of the Commemorative Coast To Coast 50 Anniversary of the United States Postal Service's transfer of Airmail from the United States Army Air Service to private contractors. He had the privilege of being personally acquainted with Charles Lindbergh. Joseph McKenna devoted his life's work to the defense and honor of his country.
