    Honored by:
    Ms. Edwina T. Cousins

Joseph R. Cousins believed .that "almost anything could be moved providing its movable" this was his daily motto and he proved it in so many ways. In 1970 there was the moving a five-ton Lunar Excursion Module transports from Oyster Bay to Grumman, Bethpage. The 18-foot square boxes coming from Cape Kennedy by barge required 2 lanes of highway plus the assistance of the utility companies and police.
Then there was the time the LEM was put in its transport and gear, aboard a "Super Guppy" a giant cargo plane for shipment to Florida's launch site.
In 1975 six sets of Space Wings were trucked, barged & shipped through the Panama Canal to California. These wing panels were 30 feet from tip to fuselage and 60 feet in width, each panel weighed 12,000 pounds, the panel's surface area totals 1500 sq. feet. This move became the largest overall dimension ground surface move ever attempted over public highways in this country.
All these monumental tasks, which required great skill in designing and planning in the equipment used, split second timing and coordination needed in every phase of these massive moves, were achieved flawlessly through the efforts of Joseph R. Cousins.
