    Ms. Christina Kerscher

Karl A. Kerscher has a tremendous aviation background of 40 plus years. A former United Airlines pilot, Karl has flown 22,000 hours since 1960. He has owned ten aircraft and his current airplane is an amphibious Cessna 172.

In 1988, Land O Lakes Airport in Wisconsin was about to close. The community had lost scheduled air service and the deteriorated runway was almost unusable. Karl initiated efforts to revitalize the airport and developed a six-year plan. Working with town and state officials, he obtained approval and funds for extending and improving the runway, building new hangars, and installing an instrument approach. As chairman of the airport commission, he worked tireless hours to maintain and improve the airport.

In 1994 the governor of Wisconsin, Tom Thompson, appointed Karl to an 18-member committee to update the State Airport System Plan and provide recommendations for changes that were needed to meet the demands of the future.

In 1995 at the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Fly-In Convention, Karl won best metal floatplane for his restored Cessna 180 on Floats.

In 1998 Karl was appointed AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) Midwest Regional Representative for Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin. He served in this capacity for several years.

Karl's love of flying, his tremendous aviation background and unbridled enthusiasm for General aviation makes him a wonderful honoree.
