Keith Wood Meurlin announced he will retire as the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority’s Vice President and Airport Manager at Washington Dulles on March 31, 2005, after a 28-year career at the airport.
Keith joined Dulles in 1977 as an airport operations officer after retiring from the United States Air Force. He held successively more responsible positions in the airport’s engineering and maintenance and operation divisions before becoming the Airport Manager in 1989.
He led Dulles through a period of remarkable growth and investment; passenger use grew from 10,399,091 to 22,872,064 and flight operations from 224,885 to 469,634 between 1989 and 2004. During this period, the Airports Authority invested nearly $1.5 billion in modernizing the airport and is currently investing an additional $3 billion to expand the airport’s capacity in order to keep pace with the growth in the region’s air service demand.
In parallel with his management of Dulles, Keith serves in the Air Force Reserve, where he holds the rank of Major General – the highest rank a reservist can achieve.
