Larry Glenn Dennis was born on March 30, 1947 in Shickshinny, PA. He was the first of Curtis and Shirley Dennis's three children. Larry Dennis has been interested in aviation since childhood when he dreamt of becoming a pilot in the Air Force or serving as an astronaut. Due to both NASA and the Air Force's stringent vision policies, Larry was unable to realize those dreams. Undeterred, Larry first pursued a career in engineering, and later in medicine. He served in the U.S. Air Force in both of these capacities for 21 years, before retiring from the service to practice medicine in the public realm. Currently, he resides in Daleville, VA where he was able to bring his dreams of flight to fruition. In 1998, Larry discovered paragliding. He spends much of his free time checking wind conditions, clearing his launch sight, and networking with others who share his passion of free flight. Dissatisfied with the availability of the launch sites in the Roanoke area, Larry purchased and cleared land at the top of a mountain to create a new sight. Along with his brother Carl, Larry has traveled to various countries, including Ecuador, Mexico. Guatemala and Brazil, seeking prime flying conditions. He has served as the president of the local hang-gliding and paragliding club.
Larry Dennis and his wife Barbara enjoy spending time with their four children, Greg, Heather, Rene and Holly, and their three grandchildren, Samantha, Alexandra and Matthew.
