Laura Maria Ochoa-Frongia has always dreamed of being a space traveler and a leader in space exploration. On May 22, 2003, Laura has graduated from the prestigious Department of Physics/Astrophysics at UC-Berkeley, with a degree in Astrophysics. She is currently preparing to enter medical school and she intends to specialize in space flight medicine. In 1999, in her College application essay, she wrote: "I hope someday to be the first human to plant my space boots on Mars' regolith." Laura is an accomplished athlete. She has been the president of Berkeley's fencing team and has won several awards and medals in professional fencing. Laura is fluent in English, Italian and Spanish and she will be spending a Semester Abroad in Madrid before entering medical school.
