    Alfred N. Long joined the U. S. Navy in February 1943. Commissioned Ensign at Corpus Christi, Texas. Served aboard the U.S.S. Bennington as a Naval Aviator in VBF-1. Piloted one of 1,500 carrier planes which flew over the U.S.S. Missouri on September 2nd, the day the treaty of surrender was signed.

    Spent fourteen years flying for MATS (Military Air Transport Service) as a transport Plane Commander, inspection and test officer in VR-5, VR-6, and VR-7 in R5D, R6D and C-121 type aircraft.

    Served as Chief Pilot and flight examiner in the Aircrew Standardization Division for C-121 and
    C-130E aircraft at MATS Headquarters at Scott Air Force Base. Retired on 31 December 1964.

    Decorations: Air Medal; Asiatic-Pacific medal with bronze star; American Defense Service Medal; World War II Victory Medal; Naval Reserve Medal; and National Defense Service Medal.
