    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:
    Mr. Meredith Newman Maroni

Meredith Newman's lifelong love of aviation began when he was ten years old and his father would take him to the Los Angeles airport to see the air races. He trained to be a pilot with the U.S. Navy and flew anti-submarine missions in PBYs during WWII, bombing missions in PB4Y2s during the Korean War, and cargo missions in DC4s during the early years of the Vietnam War. He continued his military service in the Naval Reserve for a total commitment of over thirty years.

In 1953 and 1954, he was a commercial pilot for corporations. During his subsequent career as an engineer, Mr. Newman continued flying recreationally gaining extensive experience with Cessna aircraft. In 1980, he became a flight instructor and introduced many new pilots to the joy of flying. In 1982, Mr. Newman joined the Civil Air Patrol, and in 1986 and 1987 he served as the commander of the Vermont Wing, responsible for state-wide rescue operations.
