Lt. Commander Paul Edward Roswall graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 1921-A. Flight training in Pensacola, Florida upon graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy.
In 1925 he was the first aviator assigned to the USS Lexington; piloted aboard this aircraft. He was in command at the Naval Air Station at Gould Island in Newport, Rhode Island in 1930.
He also served as flight instructor in Pensacola, Florida in 1932. In 1937 while aboard the USS Lexington, CV-2, he was in flight command of the naval operations in the search for Amelia Earhart.
