    LCDR W. Scott "Murphy" Berg, USN (Ret.), received his commission in the U. S. Navy through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) at the University of Virginia on May 17, 1997. He was accepted into flight school and graduated jet pilot training as a naval aviator from NAS Kingsville, TX in January, 1999. His first tour began on September 18, 2001, when he was ordered to Afghanistan aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) with the VS-32 Maulers flying the S-3B Viking in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). He completed his next tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) in 2004. His final tour, with the VFA-22 Fighting Redcocks, was aboard the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) on her maiden wartime deployment in 2006, where he flew combat missions in one of the twelve newest F/A-18E Super Hornets in the U.S. inventory. LCDR Berg completed 71 combat missions and 460 carrier arrested landings aboard six aircraft carriers amassing 1888 flight hours in his career. He was medically retired in 2007 from injuries related to his last combat tour over Iraq.
