    Honored by:
    Lee Ferry

Lee M. Ferry Sr. joined the US Army in April, 1943. He trained as an aircraft mechanic, and served with the 394th Fighter Squadron of the 9th Army Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant before his discharge in October 1945. As a crew chief for P-39s, P-38s, and P-47s Lee “kept ‘em flying” from advanced bases in England, Normandy, northern France, the Rhineland, Ardennes, and Germany.

As a veteran, Lee retained an interest in aviation and served as a Civil Defense Corps leader and trainer in his lifelong hometown of Torrington, Connecticut. He also imbued his grateful elder son with an enduring fascination for all things aeronautical.
