    Born in 1901 Leonard "Happy" Shanholtzer left Moorefield W.VA. in 1943 to work at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown MD to do his part in helping to win the war. He worked on the production lines later becoming an inspector. He helped build PT-19, PT-23 and PT-26 training aircraft. Post war Happy helped build the Fairchild C-82 cargo prototype and was present for it's first flight. After production of the C-82 ended he helped build the C-119 cargo and F-27 passenger planes. Later at Fairchild Hiller Happy was instrumental in development and production of the plexiglass bubbles on the FH-1100 helicopter. Pictured is his 1943 Fairchild employee identification. Happy retired from then Fairchild Republic and passed away peacefully in 1981.
