    Wall of Honor Level:
    Air and Space Leader

    Honored by:
    Mr. Michael Powers

Leroy D. Powers Jr. was born on July 20, 1940 in Chicago, Il. He was a son, a brother, a husband, and a father. He was an ironworker, steelworker, electrician, and finally a retiree. LeRoy considered himself lucky to have celebrated his birthday and witnessed mankind’s first visit to the moon on the same day. He enjoyed travelling; he loved flying; and he always dreamed of someday, somehow, participating in spaceflight. While he never fulfilled this dream, his regular visits to the National Air and Space Museum provided him with the opportunity to explore the achievements of past explorers, and imagine the new technologies and the new adventures to come. On May 16, 2011, LeRoy slipped the bonds of this world to explore the infinite. His family's donation honors LeRoy’s life, and supports the museum’s efforts to both preserve the past and inspire the future.

Wall of Honor profiles are provided by the honoree or the donor who added their name to the Wall of Honor. The Museum cannot validate all facts contained in the profiles.
