Lieutenant Hottenstein served in the United States Navy and eventually became a Naval Flight Officer. He served as a Bombardier-Navigator from 1969-1972. He recorded 300 carrier landings and 175 combat missions while cruising the Gulf of Tonkin aboard the USS Enterprise.
