Linda Moore Hicks served as the National Air and Space Museum’s Director of Special Events for twenty years: 1997 - 2017. In this role she led the team that created approximately 130 private Museum events a year and was responsible for the Museum’s most memorable celebrations, including NASM Trophy Award events honoring heroes of aviation and space, the milestone anniversary events of Apollo, and the wonderful celebratory events for the openings of new exhibit halls. The highlights of her career were the Opening Celebrations for the Udvar-Hazy Center in 2003 and the arrival of Space Shuttle Discovery in 2012. Her love for the National Air and Space Museum is so enduring that two years after her retirement she returned to enter training in the new Docent Class and graduated as a Docent in the spring of 2020.

Linda's graduation from Docent class is another step in her life in the world of aviation. Born in November of 1942 she traveled at the age of one month with her mother across the country to join her father Dr. James H. Moore who was a Lieutenant in the US Army Air Corps. This began Linda's lifetime of travel which included 52 moves and homes in 13 states and four foreign countries. Linda recalls her father asking her in 1946 whether he should move over to that new US Air Force that they were creating. She replied: "Sure Daddy"! And so it was...he served for a total of 22 years and she loved it. Linda's father was still on active duty when in 1963 she married Lt. Joe L. Hicks shortly after his graduation from the USAF Academy and her graduation from the University of Denver. Being married to a “fast burning” fighter pilot accelerated her adventures and her love of aviation and learning. She had a variety of career moves herself...high school algebra teacher, Lecturer on American Topics at the Japanese Military Intelligence School, licensed professional guide in Washington DC, Senior Event Planner for a Washington event company, and finally her dream job at the National Air and Space Museum. Linda and Joe have been married 56 years. The have two grown sons: James Robert Hicks and David Moore Hicks and one Grandson Logan James Hicks.
