    Mr. Louis Stielper

After graduating from Baltimore Polytechnic in 1933, Lou went to work at the Glen L. Martin Company located in Middle River, MD working on the B-10 bomber. It was the first all metal airplane manufactured in the United States. In the years before WWII he worked on the A-30 Baltimore bomber and the M-130 China Clippers. During WWII he worked on the B-26 Marauder bombers and the PBM-3 Mariner seaplanes. After the war Lou worked on the experimental six jet engine XB-48 bomber and the XB-57 Canberra jet engine bomber. In 1946 he worked on the P5M Marlin seaplane and then, later in 1955, the P6M Seamaster jet engine seaplane. Beginning in 1969 he worked on the X24B lifting body, a prelude to the Space Shuttle. Lou also worked on various parts of the Vanguard, Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Titan space projects. The last ten years of his career were spent at the Propulsion Research Lab of the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory located in Howard County, MD. There Lou tested fuels for aircraft and cruise missile jet engines. I spent 44 years in aircraft and space programs.
