    Barker Morehead enlisted in the Army in 1940 in the Field Artillery. He passed the test for flying school and entered the Army Air Corps December 8th, 1941. He joined the Caterpillar Club on June 11, 1942 when he parachuted out of a training airplane from Kelly Field, Texas. He received his wings on July 3, 1942 there. He flew a C-47 from San Francisco to New Guinea in December of 1942, serving for one & ½ years in the Troop Carrier Command. He was one of the few enlisted pilots, but was commissioned a Lt. while overseas. Became a professional airline pilot in June 1945, Capital and United Airlines.
