    Born Jan 13, 1917 in Ogdensburg, NY, died Feb 9, 2002.

    The good in between, his outstanding accomplishments in civil and military life. "He touched a lot of people."

    Trained as a pilot, he was on the way to the Pacific Theater immediately after Dec 7, 1941. In flight war zone New Guinea with President Lyndon Banes Johnson, then a Lieutenant Commander who received the Silver Star from General Douglas MacArthur.

    With "Hap" Arnold, a 5-star General, in Rio de Janeiro when summoned to Washington by President Harry Truman for quick decision previous to bombing Japan by "Enola Gay." Fred dispatched "Hap" Arnold over jungles.

    As chief of intelligence where there were many German sympathizers he organized madams in Houses of Prostitution to obtain vital information to identify trained German spies.

    Planes landed on way to and from European theater and sabotage a real concern. Colonel Nichols was proud to say, "No plane or crew were ever blown up on my watch."
