    George C Turpyn enlisted in the Army in September 1942, entered flight school in February 1943, and graduates as a B24 pilot in March of 1944. After specialized low-level training, he entered combat with the 375th Bomb Squadron in June 1944 against Japanese shipping off the coast of China. He was shot down by night fighters in February 1945, captured by Japanese allied Black Lolo's. He was ransomed out by a friendly Chinese farmer, and walked back to the American lines in March of 1945. Capt. Turpyn returned to the United States and married his fiancée, Constance M Gordon-in March 1946. Fie then returned to flying status in 1948 to fly the Berlin Airlift until 1949, and then served as a pilot in the Korean War. George Turpyn continued to serve as an officer in the United States Air Force until his retirement as Lt. Col. In 1964.
