Then I entered the USAF Reserve, retiring as Lt Col .on 1 July 1989, a total of 27 years of active and reserve service.
After working as a civilian at Eglin AFB, FL, I then transferred to the Army Ballistic Missile Agency in Huntsville, AL and became a member of the von Braun Rocket Research and Development Team. In December 1959 I was awarded my Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson College. When members of the team were transferred to NASA, I became a Charter Member of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center on July 1, 1960. I was a member of the Lunar Apollo 8 Science Advisory Team, Lunar Operations Working Group and was Co-Chairman of the Lunar Surface Engineering Properties/Trafficability Panel that developed the Lunar Surface Criteria Document used as the design criteria of the Apollo 15, 16, and 17 Lunar Rovers.
