    Wall of Honor Level:
    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:

On November 18, 1952, while serving aboard the USS Oriskany in North Korean waters, LT Keough, then an enlisted radarman, was manning his General Quarters (GQ) station at the aircraft carrier’s vertical plotting board when Russian MiG-15s, operating out of Vladivostok, made an aggressive move against Task Force 77. During the air battle that followed, he carried out his GQ assignment with a skill that contributed directly to a successful intercept of the MiGs by greatly outnumbered Oriskany Panther jets. The US aircraft destroyed at least two of the MiGs without any loss to themselves. This battle was the first multiple jet engagement in the history of the US Navy. (See August 1997 edition of Military History magazine.)
