    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:
    Mr. Louis W. Snell

When World War II began Bob (as he is known to friends and family) had aspirations of becoming a fighter pilot because he always had an enthusiastic zeal for model planes and anything pertaining to planes.

On Aug. 10, 1943 Bob was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Forces and received training at Lafayette College, Pa., Maxwell Field, Ala., flight school, Lakeland, Fla., basic flight school, Bainbridge, Ga., advanced flight school, Spencer Army Airfield (AAF), Moultrie, Ga., and flight gunnery school, Napier AAF, Dothan, Ala.

He served on active duty as a second lieutenant until Nov. 4, 1945. On Feb. 21, 1950 he was promoted to first lieutenant, U.S. Air Force Reserve at Langley Air Force Base.

He continued his love of flying after leaving the reserves, owning his own airplane, visiting historical airports and museums, and collecting any and all memorabilia about pilots, planes, and space flights.
