    Lieutenant Frederick A. Zender USAS.

    - Born November 4, 1892 in Brooklyn, NY.
    - Enlisted in Army June 1917 in Plattsburg, NY and attended First Officers
    Training Camp.
    - Transferred to Signal Corps Aviation Section and graduated from the University of Texas School of Military Aeronautics January 1918.
    - Completed Flight Training at Kelly Field, San Antonio, Texas, Spring 1918.
    - Commissioned a 2ndLt with RMA (Reserve Military Aviator) rating March 18,1918.
    - After the war he continued in the Reserve Corps with a JMA (Junior
    Military Aviator) rating until January 18, 1928.
    - Joined American Legion Post 854, Valley Stream, NY, in 1930 and served in all capacities including Commander in 1936.
    - Joined the 40 and 8 in 1937 and was Chaplain until moving to California in 1948.
    - Was Associate Member of Aviators Post 743.
    - Spent many years as member of school boards in Valley Stream, NY.
    - Served on local Draft Board in World War II (WWII).
    - Prior to WWII ran tests for War Department on Aircraft Spotting and was prepared to activate on Pearl Harbor Day as Chief Observer for Aircraft Warning Service Station F21.
    - He was a 32nd degree Mason.
    - He served his Church in many capacities.
    - He married his wife, Elisabeth Renshaw May 18, 1927.
    - He retired in 1969 at age 76.
    - He died Nov 22, 1988 at age 96.
    - He spent his lifetime serving and loving his country, family, and fellow man.
