Brother George was crazy about planes and flying. He was a flight instructor at a local airport until Pearl Harbor. He enlisted two weeks later, in December, 1941. He became a pilot on B-17s – was killed in action in June, 1944. His widow, the former Teresa James taught George how to fly – she was flight instructor, too. She was one of the first 25 women to join WASPS – WW II. Another brother (John) also flew in the Air Force in WW II.
