    Henry enlisted in the Army Air Corps on 12 January 1942 and finished training on 5 September 1942 at Moore Field Texas. On 6 September 1942 he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and was later promoted to 1st Lieutenant. He was stationed in North Africa in September 1942.
    He was qualified in these aircraft: PT-19, BT-13, BT-14, AT-6, AT-11, VC-45, VC-78, L-5, and BT-9; and in fighter air craft P-38, P-40, P-43, P-51, P-59, and P-63.
    He chose the P-38 for combat. He flew fifty combat missions in his P-38 totaling 216 combat hours over Africa, Sicily, Sardinia and Italy. During one mission he shot down a ME-109 which was confirmed. Henry was awarded the Air Medal with 9 Oak Leaf Clusters, Unit Citation with one Oak Leaf Cluster. European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars. Henry was separated on 28 July 1945 at Camp Chaffee Arkansas.
