Marion B. (Brad) Griggs completed American Airlines pilot training June 1, 1942. He was accepted for aviation cadet training on May 12, 1942, reported on June 6th for flight training, and was commissioned an ensign US Naval Reserve on May 1, 1943 at Corpus Christi, Texas.

Next he was assigned to Naval Air Transport Squadron 7 in Miami, Florida. He also served with Squadron 1, Patuxent, Maryland, Squadron 11, Hawaii, covering the entire pacific area, and served on temporary duty with Squadron 13, Manus Island in the Admiralty Islands group in the Pacific. His final assignment was with Squadron 71 in Anacostia, Washington, D.C.; he was released to inactive duty in 1949.
