Trained four 12-pilot Grumman Hellcat Night Fighter squadrons, 19bk-19h$, N13 Vero Beach FL. Joined EACTU 11, MS Charlestown HI. Shot seven day landings, GRGATAK, CVS-25, 8/21/1*5. HIGHLIGHTS: (l) 2/2/Wl, crashed in stormy Atlantic after my Douglas Dauntless engine lost all its oil and seized. Plane sank, raft inflater missing, sharks, no hope. Ifr superb -wingman,Ens. Thomas Mass, visually signalled and led HIP 30 to me. (2) 12/l^M, Demonstrated Night Fighter radar intercepts -with Under SECHAV Artemus Gates copilot. Returned to civilian life in October, 1916 after 2,7hO Navy flight hours. Proud and grateful to have served. Great people. Wonderful morale and results.
