Lieutenant Starks was a B-17 pilot serving in the 571 Bomb Squadron, 390th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force based in England. He and his B-17 "Starks Ark" were lost in a raid over Germany on 6th March 1944. This was his 25th mission. He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart.
