Entered USAF in summer of 1942 as a Staff Sgt. instructing glider flying in Texas. Then assigned to #1 BFTS in Terrell, Texas for powered flight training to the ATC in Long Beach, CA. They transferred me to the First Weather Reconnaissance Squadron in Manchester, NH as a B-25 pilot. The squadron was formed in an effort to replace weather ships in the Atlantic being sunk by the enemy. Flew close to 4,000 hours mostly out of Lagans, Azores, developing aerial weather reconnaissance and providing needed forecasts of weather in Europe and the English Channel for Gen. Eisenhower’s use in conducting the invasion of France.
