Mr. Ted L. Richardson
Roland Richardson was the only son of James and Annis Richardson. They lived in Glendale, Ohio, a community just north of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a combat fighter pilot in World War I, in 1917 and 1918. He received his pilot training in France under French instructors. He flew many types of early aircraft; including Sopwith Camel, Nieuports and Spads. The Spad XIII was his favorite (see photo). He donated many of his souvenirs to the Wright Patterson Museum in Dayton, Ohio. These included the Indian Head insignia and a Lewis Machine Gun from his plane.
He was a charter member of the Daedalions. He always marveled that in his lifetime the Wright brothers first flight occurred, as did jet and rocket aircraft flights, as well as the Space Shuttle trips for NASA. He survived the war and died in 1991 at the age of 94. This profile is being submitted by his four children: Ted Richardson, Betsy Kurlin, Althea Surface, and Emily Boughton, and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
