Air and Space Friend

Honored by:
Dr. Leonard E. Wood

Lt. Wood joined the USAF in 1942. Following his commission his squadron flew to England via Homestead, Natal, Ascension and Dakar where he was assigned to the 394th B-26 Bomb Group. He flew 57 missions over France and Germany, most of which in the lead ship. He flew two missions on D-Day, and survived the bad weather during the Battle of the Bulge. He holds the Air Medal with “numerous” clusters. Although his experiences are certainly not unique to the thousands who were involved in the air war, he was a dedicated and committed pilot, loved flying, especially the unforgiving B-26. He was one of the fortunate to have survived to remember and appreciate his contribution to the war in Europe.
