    Al F. Coots learned to fly in I964 and flying became one of his greatest interests. He obtained a Commercial Pilot's License and became a flight and ground instructor. He also was a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) designated accident prevention counselor.

    He joined the Civil Air Patrol in I974 and obtained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He served in the Navy during World War II and later attended Vanderbilt University where he received his PhD. Dr. Coots .joined the Chemistry Dept at North Carolina State University in 1958 and retired in 1993.

    Al Coots was born May 6, 1927 and died February 4, 2000.
