    Honored by:

    Retired from USAF in 1982 after serving in USAF for over 22 years. Received Commission through the Aviation Cadet Program and spent most of his career in Air Defense Command and Tactical Air Command.
    In 1969 was selected by USAF Chief of Staff to receive the “Aviator Valor Award” presented by the American Legion, for saving the life of his pilot and the RF-4C Phantom jet that they were flying on a combat mission over the North Vietnamese/Laos border. His pilot took a direct hit in the chest from AAA fire. Capt. Dobberfuhl as navigator recovered the aircraft from a dive and successfully landed from the rear cockpit.
