    Class 41-1 Flying Cadet he was rated pilot & 2nd lt Army Air-Corp Reserve 12 Dec.1941, assigned to 56th Fighter Group, 62nd Squadron 26 Dec, 1941, flying P-35,P-36,Yp-39,P-40,P-43,C-40 aircraft. He flew the first P-47 assigned to a tactical Fighter Group in May 1942. A Flight Commander, he flew the first seven P-47 combat missions against the Luftwaffe in April, 1943. An Ex-POW in 1945, he flew P-51,P-80,F-84,F-86,F-100,F104. He returned-to Europe in 1954 and was Commander, 7330th Pilot Training Group and assisted in re-establishing the Luftwaffe. He is the only known Ex-POW to be a fully rated pilot and honorary "Oberst" in the Luftwaffe. In 1958 as Operations Chief, Defense Atomic Support Agency, he participated in testing at Mercury and Eniwetok. In 1961 he assisted in the establishment of STRIKE COMMAND, where he was J-5 Plans and Liaison Officer. A Command Pilot, he retired from active military duty in November, 1962
