LTC Maloney was a bomber pilot (B-17) in World War II flying 50 combat missions in the Mediterranean Theater. During the first 13 missions he participated in large formation bombing (daylight) formations with 1,000 or more planes over Germany and Yugoslavia. He later flew a lone B-17 to secret targets in Italy, France and the Balkans, dropping agents and supplies to partisan forces at nighttime. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and other commendations, retiring from the Air National Guard in 1963.
