* Member championship Tennis Team UC Santa Barbara, 1941.
* Jan 1942 Pilot Training US Air Corps; Commissioned Sept, 1942.
* May 1943 – Sept 1944 flew British Spitfires and P-51 Mustangs over Italy, France, Germany and Balkans on 80 dive bombing, strafing, and bomber escort missions.
* Credited with sinking armed enemy freighter.
* Scored 4th aerial victory over enemy fighters while leading 4th Fighter Squadron on shuttle mission to USSR.
* C.O. Liaison Squadron countering Japanese balloon intrusions in U.S., 1945.
* Military awards: Two DFC’s, one Purple Heart, Air Medal, 8 OLC’s.
