Graduated from the Army Flying Cadet Program in April of 1943. Flew P-47 fighter aircraft for several months. Transferred to the 384th Bomb Group in August of 1944. Became a B-17 pilot and flew 12 combat missions over Europe. Shot down on our 13th mission over Stuttgart, Germany. Remained a POW until liberated by the Soviets on May 1, 1945. I remained in the Air Force Reserve until retirement in 1975.
