    Enlisted in the Army in Rochester, New York on 30 November 1917 and was assigned to the 84th Aero Sqn. At Kelly Field, Texas. Commissioned 2d Lt with Pilot Rating 13 Oct 1918 and assigned to 135th Aero Sqn, Carruthers Field, Texas. Discharged 20 October 1919 with Reserve Military Aviator commission, serial number 0-138389.
    He barnstormed around the country before returning to more normal pursuits, retaining his commission and serving with various New York national Guard and Reserve units. He was recalled for Civilian Conservation Corps duties, serving from 1933 to 1935 in Wanakena, NY, manila, Utah, Central valley, NY, Egg harbor, NJ and Wrightstown, NJ.
    Immediately after Pearl Harbor, he volunteered to return to service and was recalled in February, 1942. He shipped to England in April, 1942 as an early member of Eighth Air Force, serving in various administrative positions as he was considered too old to fly. Returned to U.S. in April, 1945, discharged as Major in 1946. Remained in USAF Reserve with retirement as LtCol in Oct 1956 after 24 years of total service.
