    1933 Commissioned 2nd Lt., USAAF, Kelly Field, Texas.
    1933-35 Stationed March Field, Calif. During 1934 flew airmail between LOS Angeles and Salt Lake City after Pres. Roosevelt turned that function over to the Army Air Corp. 1935-40 Pilot for Braniff Airways and Canadian Colonial Airways. 1940-41 Test Pilot for Lockheed Aircraft Corp. Ferry pilot flying aircraft to England for the RAF. Ferry pilot flying heavy aircraft across the South Atlantic to North Africa and Russia for Pan American World Airways. Nov. 1942 Ordered back to active duty with the Army Air Corp stationed in Miami, Florida. Continued flying combat aircraft to North Africa and Russia. Commanding Officer of a ferry squadron at Berry Field, Nashville, Tenn. 0ct. l943 - Dec. 1945 Assigned as Chief Test Pilot of the Flight Test Section, Norton Air Force Base, San Bernardino, California. As such, Major Fischer flew and tested the first Air Force jet, the Bell P-59 now on display at the Air and Space Museum, Washington, DC.
    Following WWII, LtCol. Fischer, as a civilian, became a test pilot for Douglas Aircraft and owner of AM-VET Flight School. He was subsequently awarded the Legion of Merit for his years as a test pilot, and devotion to duty.
