    Captain Elmer W. Follin, Retired United Airlines
    Born March 23, 1924 in Kansas City, Kansas. Graduated May 1942 from Turner High School, Kansas. Entered US Army Aviation Flight Training as a pilot in December, 1942. Received pilot wings in October and was sent to training in B-24s. Flew tour years in southwest Pacific action until the war ended and was sent home. Attended college at Colorado State and at the same time was active in the USAF Reserve in various planes at Lowry in Denver. They had a few C47s and got Col. Charlie Scanal's attention. Given a training assignment in Chicago. Flew DC3s, DC4s, DC6s, DC7s, DC8s, and DC 10s. 1955 was a high point. Advanced to DC6 reserve and a lovely United hostess in Boston began flying the 4-stops DC6 to Chicago. Elmer returns Ms. Mary Cusick to Boston. The marriage was on March 17, 1955. Our first son, John, arrived August 24, 1958. Our first daughter, Mary, arrived April 21, 1959 and is now a flight attendant on Delta Airlines for the last 25 years. Our last son is William who graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1989. He trained as a refueling Air-to-Air in flight commander. He was sent to Europe and became qualified with computer controls. William was hired by United and based in Chicago flying as a copilot on several types of planes. In June 1976, Elmer received a promotion to rank as a Colonel in the US Air Forces. Later, retirement came at the age of 60 in both the Air Force and United Airline on March 23, 1984.
