    LtCol Fowler was an officer in the USAF from 1955 through 1978 when he retired. He spent 3 years in the Strategic Air Command (SAC) flying RB-47 Stratojets. Upon release from active duty in 1958 he joined the USAF Active Reserve in which he spent the following 20 years flying C-119s, C-124s, and C-123s where he amassed a total flying time of over 7000 hours, a Command Pilot rating, and he was Squadron Commander of the 731st Tactical Air Squadron, 94th Wing.

    He is (in 2002) an active life member of the Air Force Association, a life member of the Reserve Officers' Association, a life member of The Retired Officers' Association, and a member of the Military Order of the World Wars.
