    Harold S. Vartanian served in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years of active duty. He entered the Army Air Corps during WW II and served as a weather forecaster for the 357th Fighter Group that was stationed in England as part of the 8th Army Air Corps. He provided the weather briefings on D-Day for pilots who flew during the invasion. After WW II he joined the Michigan Air National Guard, which was activated for the Korean War. Harold stayed active duty serving as a meteorologist and severe weather forecaster. His last assignment was with the Strategic Air Command in Omaha, Nebraska where he retired and returned to Michigan Harold S. Vartanian died on August 15, 1994 at the age of 76.
