    “J.U.” came from Dyersburg, TN and went into the Army at the beginning of WWII. He flew L-4 and L-5 artillery spotting aircraft (Piper Cubs) in North Africa and Germany earning the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars. He spent 26 years in the Army finishing with the “Big Red One” returning from a deployment to Vietnam in 1966. A graduate in Agriculture from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, he served UT until shortly before his passing in 1989. Survived by four children (including two Air Force Officers, a travel agent, and an international attorney. J.U. typified, with his wife Lucille, the dedicated young families who rode out of the Depression to make the “World Safe for Democracy” and keep America flying high into the New Millennium.
